Conservation by Re-use
Helping churches acquire surplus and/or redundant bells to be hung for
English-style full-circle bell-ringing.
Much Cowarne, Herefordshire,
The ring of six bells had not been rung for many years. Church Bells of Herefordshire by Frederick Sharpe published in 1969 states that the tenor bell is badly cracked in the sound bow, probably due to “clocking”, evidence of which was found in the tower.
To encourage a restoration project the Trust offered to donate a replacement tenor bell. The bells were restored during 2009 and thanks to a generous grant the cracked tenor was weld repaired and our replacement tenor bell was not needed.
