Conservation by Re-use
Helping churches acquire surplus and/or redundant bells to be hung for
English-style full-circle bell-ringing.
The front four bells of the St Mary, Highfield St, Liverpool chime have been installed as the back four of a light ring of six at Stanton-in-Peak, Derbyshire. Their existing ring of bells with a tenor weight of approximately 10 cwt were considered too large and heavy for the tower and have not been rung full-circle in living memory.
The existing bell frame is of unusual design with some bells swinging into adjacent pits and one swings into the louvers! The new installation was completed during March 2003.
The old bell-frame prior to removal.
The “old” ring of bells from Stanton have been installed at Hartington, Derbyshire.
